The Plan was adopted by the Town of Red River Town Council on May 27th, 2025.
The Town of Red River has been awarded over $100,000 in grant funding to improve Mallette Park. The improvements include landscaping work; demolition of the old gazebos and construction of new ones; fencing update.
The funding was secured through the Trails+ grant of the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division and the Land & Water Conservation Fund program of the New Mexico Department of Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources.
The Department was awarded a FY26 Destination Forward grant by the New Mexico Tourism Department to procure and install a network of digital information kiosks throughout the town. The purpose of this project is to disperse the information about the town businesses, events, outdoor recreation assets, and critical rules and information to the town visitors and residents to ensure the positive economic impact of tourism on the town's overall economic health.
The Town of Red River has been awarded $25,000 through the New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Local Economic Assistance & Development Support (LEADS) program to implement the Resilient Business Toolkit & Continuity Planning Initiative, a groundbreaking project aimed at strengthening the long-term stability and preparedness of the town’s small business community.
Spearheaded by the Town’s Office of Economic Development & Tourism, the initiative is designed to help local businesses prepare for and respond to disruptions caused by natural disasters, economic shocks, and service interruptions. The program will provide customized business continuity toolkits, one-on-one preparedness assessments, educational workshops, and a public awareness campaign under the slogan “Prepare to Stay Open.”
The Department team is working on designing the Town's first-ever Tourism Development Strategic Plan, which will serve as a roadmap for the development of the tourism industry in the town over the next 10 years. With this plan, the Town will address sustainable tourism growth, as tourism is the major economic driver for Red River. The plan will also address the OHV management strategies.
The Town of Red River Office of Economic Development & Tourism was awarded the town's first-ever U.S. Economic Development Administration's Public Works & Economic Adjustment grant in the amount of $1,250,000.00 matched by the New Mexico Department of Finance & Administration's NM Match Fund at $1,250,000.000. The purpose of this project is to upgrade the outdated wastewater system in downtown Red River to support new and existing business development and two new housing subdivisions.
