40TH ANNUAL RED RIVER MEMORIAL DAY MOTORCYCLE RALLY KICKS OFF IN RED RIVER

RED RIVER, NEW MEXICO – As the motorcycles begin rolling into Red River and the Enchanted Circle region, Town of Red River officials have been working hard getting ready for this weekend. “Preparations for this event have been on-going since March to assure that everything is in place for visitors and residents to have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Weekend,” says Red River Town Marshal, James Johnson.

Johnson, who became Red River’s Town Marshal last year, feels confident about the cooperation between agencies equating to a safer event for everyone. “U.S. Forest Service and local and state public safety and emergency response officials have combined efforts to ensure the current fire restrictions orders are being followers by all visitors and residents alike,” says Johnson. “This a great weekend for Red River, so we encourage everybody to have a good time, obey the current protocols, and be safe.”

Each Memorial Day weekend, the Enchanted Circle hosts 25,000 to 30,000 motorcyclists, with up to 15,000 in Red River at any given moment. Through combined efforts with multiple law enforcement agencies, Red River hopes to provide an atmosphere where visitors, both on and off motorcycles, can feel safe to enjoy themselves in a relaxing environment.

The current forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper sixties all weekend making a perfect weekend to enjoy the Sangre de Cristo mountains. “Vendors selling everything from gourmet food to leather and motorcycle apparel to other specialty merchandise set up their booths throughout the whole town,” says Max Khudiakov, Red River Tourism Director. “Local businesses are ready for this big weekend as well. The Town still has a few vacancies for rooms, but they should be filled up with walk-in traffic.”

Activities for the weekend include multiple live music concerts throughout the town; tattoo, beard, and trivia contests; Steve Stucker’s “Rally in the Valley” charity run, Vitalant’s blood drive as well as activities at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Angel Fire.
